Alphabet-owned Google (GOOGL.O) on Tuesday mentioned it’s reducing jobs at mapping app Waze because it merges the app’s promoting system with Google Advertisements know-how, with out giving particulars on the variety of layoffs.
“With the intention to create a greater, extra seamless long-term expertise for Waze advertisers, we’ve begun transitioning Waze’s current promoting system to Google Advertisements know-how. As a part of this replace, we’ve decreased these roles targeted on Waze Advertisements monetization,” Google, which acquired Waze for about $1.3 billion in 2013, mentioned.
Google had in December mentioned that it’s going to merge Waze and Google Maps groups to consolidate processes, making it part of the Google Geo division, its portfolio of real-world mapping merchandise that embody Google Maps, Google Earth, and Avenue View.
The information was first reported by CNBC earlier within the day, citing an electronic mail from Chris Phillips, who leads the Geo division. He mentioned Google will notify advertisers and companions concerning the transfer on Wednesday.
